The Capital Markets business consists of fixed income sales, trading and matched book repo financing as well as new issue placements in corporate and securitized products, advisory services and investment banking primarily through Cohen & Company’s subsidiary, J.V.B. Financial Group LLC.

Principal Investing

The Principal Investing business strategically invests Cohen & Company’s capital.

Cohen & Company, Inc. (NYSE American: COHN) (“Cohen & Company”) is a financial services company founded in 1999 as a private investment firm focused on small-cap financial institutions.  Over time, Cohen & Company’s focus shifted to debt financing and securitization, and now focuses primarily on asset management and niche segments of fixed income trading.  Cohen & Company, through its subsidiaries, focuses on U.S. and European Asset Management, U.S. and European Capital Markets, Loan Trading and Principal Investing.  The Asset Management business manages assets through collateralized debt obligations, managed accounts, and investment funds.  As of June 30, 2017, Cohen & Company managed approximately $4 billion in fixed income assets in a variety of asset classes including US and European trust preferred securities, subordinated debt, and corporate loans.  The Capital Markets business consists of fixed income sales, trading, and matched book repo financing as well as new issue placements in corporate and securitized products and advisory services, 

operating primarily through Cohen & Company’s subsidiaries, J.V.B. Financial Group, LLC in the United States and Cohen & Company Financial Limited in Europe.  J.V.B. Financial Group, LLC is a registered broker-dealer regulated by FINRA and subject to oversight by the SEC, and focuses on Mortgage Trading and Financing, SBA Securitization, Wholesale Sales & Trading, and Credit Trading.  Cohen & Company Financial Limited is licensed by the Financial Conduct Authority in the United Kingdom with a branch office in Paris and focuses on structuring, advisory, and capital raising for its Trade Finance Business and the intermediation of assets from banks to investors.  The Loan Trading business, run by Concordant Capital Group, LLC, is currently building a Residential Transition Lending business focused primarily on the purchase and sale of small balance commercial loans (also known as “fix and flip” loans) primarily used by professional investors and real estate developers for purchase and rehabilitation financing of residential properties.  The Principal Investing segment invests Cohen & Company’s capital strategically.
